Keep CTU strong, elect an experienced fighter for what is right!

Elect Justin Hons for Member-at-large, Senior/Specials

Member-at-large, Senior Highs/Specials

An experienced fighter for your union rights!

Let’s beat back the attacks on our union and all teachers and paraprofessionals. It’s time to stand up, speak out, and demand our rights!

The CTU is currently under attack by CEO Eugene Sanders. He does not respect us as collaborative partners. His refusal to negotiate with us, rejecting our input in the creation of the school transformation plan, and his continued lack of collaboration is beyond unacceptable. CTU members must stand up together to end this assault. The future of the Cleveland Teacher’s Union depends on it!

If elected, I pledge to do the following:

» Fight for our contractual seniority rights even when administration desires otherwise.

» Insist that teachers do NOT have to reapply to be back at their current work site in 2010-11.

» Refuse to support the negative provisions of Race to the Top funding: more charter schools, cutting seniority for teachers, and tying teacher pay to student performance.

» Demand the district properly deal with problematic students by creating more alternative settings for disruptive behavior.

» Go to bat for CTU members who work hard on a daily basis!

My experience

» Lincoln West High School – Assistant CTU chair, staff of over 120 members; fought for and won more special education teachers in our building this year.

» Youth Opportunity (YO!) Twilight Program – Building chair; helped run an alternative school with four other CTU members when the district refused to provide a substitute principal.

» WRUW-FM 91.1 – Director of Public Affairs Programming from 2006 – 2010; insisted on quality news programming for the benefit of the larger Cleveland community.

» History of working on labor issues in northeast Ohio with the AFL-CIO and grassroots organization, including the recent election of President Barack Obama.
